Taylor Swift went above and beyond the usual level of support for a friend struggling with a breakup, sending Jessica Chastain a “curated” playlist to help her cope with the experience.
On Friday, Chastain shared the story of her interaction with the pop superstar Today’s show with Jimmy Fallon. (The anecdote comes about halfway through the excerpt above.)
Chastain said the episode stemmed from her first meeting with Swift in 2011 at the Met Gala in New York, where the two sat down over dinner and talked and danced the night away. At one point during their conversations, Chastain confessed that she had just experienced a breakup.
“The next day I got an email from iTunes that said ‘Taylor Swift,'” Chastain recalled. “I just thought it was a Taylor Swift album. She made me a breakup playlist that she sent me – isn’t it the cutest?! Here I thought it was a Taylor Swift ad. And it was like, “Wait a minute!” And she put together all these breakup songs to send me and help me through the breakup.
Fallon pushed his chair back from his desk and marveled, “That’s why she is who she is.”
The story was prompted by Fallon’s social media post in which Chastain showed her backstage during a stop in Mexico City during Swift’s blockbuster Eras tour this year.
Chastain appeared Tonight to promote the film Memorywhich attracted a lot of attention for her performance and that of her co-star Peter Sarsgaard.
