With Godzilla minus one being a huge success, many fans wonder if he is the director Takashi Yamazaki we will return to do another one. The director has been a fan of Kaiju films since he was a child, and now he is responsible for one of the best Kaiju films ever made. The pressure is on to take the franchise to the next level, but he has mixed feelings about it.
During an interview with GQ Japan, the director admitted that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to make a sequel to Godzilla Minus One. He said:
“I’d like to see someone else’s Godzilla, but I want to do it next time too. I have very complicated feelings.”
Yamazaki has an interest in making another Godzilla film, but as a fan he also wants to see how another director would handle the giant creature. I’ll tell you something… I wouldn’t want to be the director who follows Godzilla Minus One, even the director himself is sure he wants to do it!
One thing is certain: Toho will ask Yamazaki to make another film. we’ll just have to wait and see what he chooses to do in the end.
The film is set in Japan 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan was reduced to nothing. Godzilla appears and throws the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how – and with whom – will Japan resist?”
The director recently shared a message to Godzilla fans in North America thanking them for their support of the film and its success, saying, “We are thrilled with the tremendous response in North America. I have read fan feedback on social media and am very encouraged by the passionate comments based on in-depth analysis of the film. I heard that in some rooms there was even applause. Thank you for warmly receiving our Godzilla.”
