Blumhouse’s THE WOLF MAN replaces Ryan Gosling with Christopher Abbott

Blumhouse has developed a new The Wolf Man horror film for Universal Pictures. The film is directed by the director of the Invisible Man Leigh Whannell AND Ryan Gosling he was originally supposed to star in the film. Gosling has since left the project, and the project just announced its replacement for him.

THE The Wolf Man the film will now be the protagonist Christopher Abbottwho recently appeared in the film Poor things. He has also appeared in projects such as Catch-22, Girls, Possessor, Comes at night, AND The crowded room.

Plot details haven’t been revealed, but it’s a Wolf Man movie and the story is said to focus on “a man whose family is terrorized by a lethal predator.”

The screenplay was written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum AND Rebecca Angelo, the latter duo had already written the comedy-drama Dumb Money. Gosling is still with the group as an executive producer Jason Blum.

I love the original 1941 film, directed by George Wagner. The film tells the story of Larry Talbot, played by Lon Chaney Jr., who returns to his ancestral home in Wales after the death of his brother. During a fateful encounter with a wolf-like creature, Larry is bitten and cursed with lycanthropy, transforming into a werewolf when the full moon rises. As he struggles to control his deadly transformation, Larry becomes a threat to the villagers.

By Lon Chaney Jr The portrayal of the tormented Larry Talbot is considered one of the best performances in the history of classic horror cinema. I hope this new film captures the spirit and atmospheric setting of the original film.

Universal Pictures has set the film for release on October 25, 2024.
