Netflix has announced that it has officially renewed the critically acclaimed martial arts revenge animated series Blue-eyed samurai for the second season! This is one of my favorite shows of the year! I just finished the show and was completely blown away by its interesting story and characters! I loved the first season, it’s a badass show and I’m excited for the story to continue with a second season!
The series was created, executive produced and written by Amber Noizumi AND Michele Verde (Logan AND Blade Runner 2049), and said in a statement: “When we began this project, we committed to taking this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bringing it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, Martial artists and the voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations. We are grateful to our entire team and to our viewers around the world who have shown so much passion for Mizu and her journey of revenge.”
They continued by teasing, “Mizu has a lot more blood to shed! We are deeply grateful to our incredible Netflix partners for allowing the journey to continue.”
The series centers on an Edo period samurai in Japan seeking revenge. It is described as a “provocative and visually stunning film series” that “immerses the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action twist. Set in Edo period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race sword master who lives a life in disguise seeking liberation from vengeance.
The voice cast includes Maya Erskine (Mizu), Giorgio Takei (Seki), Masi Oka (Ringo), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (The Swordmaker), Brenda Song (Akemi), Darren Barnett (Taigen), Randall Park (Heiji Shindo) e Kenneth Branagh (Abyia Fowler). Supporting voice cast includes Stephanie Hsu (Ise), Ming-Na Wen (Mrs. Kaji), Harry Shum Jr. (Takayoshi) e Marco Dacasco (Chiaki) and more.
