Sony Pictures spent a decade trying to get a Unexplored movie took off and when it finally got made and released, it ended up being a big dick of a movie and a waste of talent and money. Yes, the film made over $400 million at the box office, but the reviews blew it away and it only has a 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Uncharted is one of Sony’s biggest and best video game franchises, but the studio executives and creative team really messed it up. Regardless, they are developing a sequel and trying to build a franchise.
During a recent interview with The Direct, Mark Wahlberg offered an update on Uncharted 2 and confirmed that the sequel is “very much in the works and a script has been written.”
“I’ve heard a lot of different ideas. I know someone wrote a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would involve having a mustache the whole time. Which makes perfect sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have a mustache.
Wahlberg went on to praise his mustache, saying:
“I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. I feel like I have a big piece of tape over my mouth and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs, prosthetics, makeup and all that stuff. I have successfully worn a prosthesis, but that was a long time ago. When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that movie. So if we could make it better than the first one, I’d be open to it, but I only know what you know right now.”
Even though it was painful for me to watch the first movie because it took everything I loved about the game and ruined it, the film’s producer, Charles Rover, thinks the movie was really good and that people liked it. Previously he said:
“Oh yeah! We had a lot of fun with that movie. Fans really liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game really liked the movie. So we’re definitely looking to make another one.”
I have no desire to watch another unexplored film, and if this sequel ends up getting made, it will most likely be a box office bomb. As we’ve seen with these big movie franchises from Marvel, DC, and Disney, people aren’t flocking to theaters to watch these movies like they used to. With a movie as bad as Uncharted, it’s safe to say that many moviegoers won’t waste their time or money on a sequel.
What do you think? You’re going to go watch a Unexplored Continuation?
