Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale want to join Cold War spy film BEST OF ENEMIES

Bradley Cooper AND Cristiano Balla are in talks to work again on an upcoming Cold War spy film titled The best of enemies. The two had worked together before The American hustle and it looks like it will be another great project for the two of them where they get to play a couple of interesting characters.

The film project is based on the book “Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War” by Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo.

Best of Enemies tells the story of CIA agent Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, a pair of Cold War spies who developed an unlikely friendship at a time when they should have been anything but. Platt and Vasilenko were newcomers to the Washington D.C. intelligence scene in 1978, with the former working at the CIA’s counterintelligence office and the latter at the Soviet embassy. Remarkably, they came to establish strong personal bonds, even after each was sent to seduce the other into betraying their country.”

It explains that they were “involved in solving some of the most famous spy stories of the 20th century, including the rooting out of Soviet mole Robert Hanssen. While Vasilenko spent some time in a Soviet prison after the government learned that he had been working as a double agent for the United States, he was eventually freed with the help of the CIA during the 2010 Spy Swap .

Sources say Cooper will play Platt, with Bale as Vasilenko. American Hustle scribe Eric Warren Singer is writing the screenplay and Carlo Roven (Oppenheimer) is intended to produce. The project has been sold to movie studios and streaming services and there is no information on who will direct the film.
