It was a big surprise when Lucasfilm announced it Margaret Ridley would return to play Rey Skywalker in a new version Star Wars film, especially since the actress had previously said she was done playing the character.
This Star Wars the project was developed by the director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) and writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). All we’ve really been told about the film is that it follows the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.
Ridley is now speaking out about the project for the first time and it turns out his return was a surprise to her too! While speaking with Collider, Ridley spoke about her experience in Star Wars Celebration and she said the story wasn’t what she expected:
“I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because nobody knew I was going. Nobody knew I was going to Celebration, bars like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. My God. It was a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really good. I’m waiting to read the script because obviously I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”
The actress continued to gush about the status of the project and believes it will be next Star Wars upcoming films:
“I know the plot of a movie. That’s not to say that’s it, but that’s what I’ve been told. And I guess it’ll be the next movie, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know. , after the strikes and everything else, how quickly it’s all going to start again. But yeah, so far I know the story of a movie and I think people will be very excited.”
Are any of you excited to see Rey’s story continue in a new Star Wars movie?
