Nobody expected this from the actor.

Peter Jackson’s trilogy “The Lord of the Rings” has long been considered a classic: billions of dollars on the World Box Office, 17 Academy Awards and unlimited love for fans around the world. But even such legendary films are not safe for criticism – also from their own actors.

The performer of the role of Aragorn, Wiggo Mortensen, said in an interview with the Telegraph that the best film of the trilogy remains the first for him – “Brotherhood of the Ring”. The reason, according to him, is that the “natural” atmosphere of life was still preserved:

“In the first part, yes, there is a Rivendell, there is a Mordor, but there is authenticity in it: the actors play with each other, real landscapes, more and more everyday. Then Peter started using computer images on every occasion, and gradually everything that was thin and closer, in the second and third part.”

The actor in particular was disappointed that the “return of the king” and “two forts” were almost completely dependent on special effects.

The words of Mortensen caused lively discussions in a fan environment. Many spectators accused the actor of alleged “hatred” the entire trilogy. He himself later said in an interview with The Independent:

“I didn’t say Peter ruined everything. This is just my opinion.”

At the same time, the actor again emphasized that he is closer to the extensive version of the first part, where more living scenes and less CGI are.

However, Jackson’s fascination for special effects of the trilogy did not interfere:

  • 3 films have raised more than 2.9 billion dollars at the World Box Office;
  • “Return of the King” took 11 Oscars, including “best film”;
  • In total, the trilogy won 17 prizes from the American Film Academy.

Despite the claims on special effects, Mortensen emphasized that he was grateful to the trilogy: it was these films that opened his way to new roles and made him a global name. But even after years the actor remains honest in the assessment and believes that only the first part of the Lord of the Rings was really unique.
