Steven Yuen’s character confirmed in Marvel’s THUNDERBOLTS

A couple of months ago this was rumored Steven Yuen would play The Sentry in the next Marvel film Lightning. Invincible Creator Robert Kirkmann has now confirmed the news in a recent interview. While Yuen has been tight-lipped about who he’ll play, Kirkmam had no problem spilling the Marvel beans, because what are they going to do to him?

Kirkman was a guest on artist David Finch’s YouTube channel when Kirkman talked about Yeun and Sentry. he revealed:

“My good friend Steven Yeun is playing The Sentry in a movie. He called me, he went to a costume fitting. I don’t think this is a spoiler, or anything that would get anyone in trouble. I don’t know,” maybe , We will see. I don’t care, I don’t work for Marvel. What will they do to me? He called me and said, ‘I just got back from costume fitting for Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes who wear yellow and blue.'”

As you know, Steven Yeun also voices Mark Grayson/Invincible in Kirkman’s adult animated series Invincible. I guess since this news is spreading across the internet today, Yeun will call Kirkman WTF.

The Sentinel is a deranged and incredibly powerful character, and it was previously reported that he will be part of Val’s Thunderbolts team and will be involved in the first two acts before “something tears him away from them”.

What’s likely to tear him away will be The Void, which is the dark entity that bonded with Bob Reynolds when he became the Sentry, and acts as a counterforce and embodiment of his negative aspects. He is more of a force than a person, but he can take any form he chooses.

The Void is so powerful that it is capable of destroying the Earth and the entire universe if it wanted to. Reynolds fights a constant internal battle to keep the Void at bay which manifests itself every time she uses his powers and is his eternal nemesis, born in the same psyche as him.

It was also reported that the character will wear a comic-accurate costume in the film. Yuen will be amazing in this role and I’m excited to see where they take the character’s arc in the MCU.

Yeun joins the cast of Thunderbolts which includes Sebastiano Stan as Bucky Barnes who will lead the team, Davide Porto in the role of the Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as a US agent, Hannah John-Kamen in the role of Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and of course Florence Pugh in the role of Elena Belova. Then, there is Harrison Fordwho takes on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will become President of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri he also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier (Paper cities, joke), from a screenplay by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) AND Kurt Busiek. Lightning it is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
