Peacock announced this on Friday The Exorcist: Believerthe first part of a new film trilogy based on the 1973 horror classic. The exorcistwill debut exclusively on the platform on December 1, with titles such as The black phone And Five Nights at Freddy’samong many others.
Acquired from Universal and Blumhouse, believers introduces viewers to Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.), who has been raising his daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) alone since his pregnant wife died in an earthquake in Haiti twelve years ago. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear into the woods and return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it sets off a chain of events that forces Victor to delve into the depths of the… confront evil people. To overcome his fear and despair, he seeks out the only living person who has ever experienced such a thing: Chris MacNeil.
Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as MacNeil, the woman forever changed by her daughter Regan’s obsession five decades ago, with Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Jennifer Nettles (Harriet) and Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon) complete the ensemble. When the film was released in October, it grossed over $133 million worldwide.
“Pic” is directed by David Gordon Green, who has already left his mark on another iconic horror series Halloween. Green co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler from a story by Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Green, based on characters by William Peter Blatty. Producers included Jason Blum for Blumhouse and David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Executive producers are McBride, Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer.
The next film in the series, The Exorcist: Impostoris slated to hit theaters on April 18, 2025.
