Taika Waititi he certainly seems to know how to market his properly Star Wars film project and get fans excited about what he’s doing! The writer and director previously confirmed that he was still developing his Star Wars movie with Lucasfilm and that he was taking his time to make sure he got it right.
Now he followed it up with the thing you don’t want to tell Star Wars fans! During a recent interview with Variety, you said that her film will “piss people off.”
During the premiere of his next film Next goal: victoryWaititi was asked about his Star Wars movie and he responded by saying, “It’s going to be… a dramatic break… a Taika Waititi movie. It’s going to piss people off.”
Yes, this is the kind of comment that will get fans excited for a Star Wars movie! HEY! go see my movie because it will piss you off! The fact is, let’s be honest, the movie will most likely piss off some fans. The director is no stranger to arousing the hatred of fanboys,
Waititi explained that he’s trying to create something new with the franchise and expand the universe beyond all the characters and locations we’re familiar with. She said that she is still trying to come up with an idea for the film and that she is “still throwing everything at the wall.” He later explained that he still hasn’t fully understood his idea of him and isn’t even 100% sure that his film will be made.
Waititi later explained that he was stuck on the “middle part” and added: “I have a really good idea for this. It’s just like in all movies, it’s this central part. You ask yourself “What will happen?” And then you watch all these movies that are so fantastic, you think, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'”
He talked about what he can bring to the franchise saying, “Look, I think for the Star Wars to expand, the universe must expand. I don’t think I’m of any use in the Star Wars universe that’s making a movie where everyone’s like, “Oh great, well those are the Millennium Falcon blueprints, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.” It’s all its own, it’s great, although I’d like to take something new and create new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like a very small story.”
President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the project earlier this year, saying the project will happen “one day.”
What are your thoughts on Waititi’s recent comments about his Star Wars movie that pisses people off?
