Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to a science fiction comic book series initially published by Marvel Comics in the 1980s titled Alien Legion. They carried on Dead Pool AND Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller to develop the film and help build an epic space opera franchise.
Alien Legion blends military science fiction with a diverse cast of characters and entertaining, complex storytelling. Created by writers Carl Potts AND Alan Zelenetztogether with the artist Franco Cirocco, the series is set in a distant future where the United Planets are defended by the Alien Legion, a force made up of a diverse group of extraterrestrial soldiers. The Legion is known for its diverse members, including anthropomorphic, alien, and human characters, each with their own unique abilities and backgrounds. The series explores the challenges faced by the Legion as they navigate a universe filled with interstellar conflict, political intrigue, and cosmic threats.
The story often revolves around the Force Nomads, a group of misfits within the Legion, as they undertake dangerous missions across the galaxy. The narrative features a mix of intense action, intricate world-building, and moral dilemmas faced by the characters.
Alien Legion it is described as “the French Foreign Legion in space” and key characters include Sarigar, a captain of a snake-like species that was once used as slave labor; the brutal degenerate Juger Grimrod, with his green skin and deep hostility towards authority; the kind four-armed doctor, Meico; and Torie Montroc, a human who was forced to serve a tour of duty in the Legion to receive her inheritance.
Don Murphy AND Susan Montford of angry films (Transformers AND Real steel) will produce the film together with Aaron Ryder.
Hollywood has actually been interested in bringing Alien Legion on the big screen for years. Dimension Films had the project in the early 2000s and then it was picked up by the producer Jerry Bruckheimer where he installed it at Disney. He had even written some screenplays David Benioff (game of Thrones), AND 3:10 in Yuma‘S Derek Haas AND Michael Brandt. Obviously things didn’t work out.
Co-Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Pictures Group Michele De Luca he is said to be a fan of the comic and has been following it for several years. Miller is also a fan and actively pursued it at one point when he was an animator early in his career.
It looks like the project has gotten to where it needs to be and I’m excited to see what Miller does with it!
