A couple of months ago this was reported Taika Waititi’S Star Wars the film was “dead”. Well, it turns out the rumors weren’t true. The director recently confirmed that his Star Wars the film, first announced in 2020, is still in development.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Waititi explained that he is working on several projects and is taking his time Star Wars project, so that I can do it well. His exact quote reads:
“At the moment I’m still developing something with them. Like me, they have many projects underway. I think they’ll push until I finish these other projects. I have about four more scripts I’m trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time and do it right. I don’t want to rush this movie.
So if Waititi is Star Wars project never come to fruition, it won’t be for a long time. If he’s trying to get those other four projects done first, he won’t succeed Star Wars for another seven or eight years.
Waititi previously explained that he’s trying to create something new with the franchise and expand the universe beyond all the characters and locations we’re familiar with. The director has offered updates on the project over the past two years.
The director also said that he is still trying to come up with an idea for the film and that he is “still throwing everything at the wall.” He later explained that he still hasn’t fully understood his idea of him and isn’t even 100% sure that his film will be made. Now it appears he still has his script finished.
Waititi later explained that he was stuck on the “middle part” and added: “I have a really good idea for this. It’s just like in all movies, it’s this central part. You ask yourself “What will happen?” And then you watch all these movies that are so fantastic, you think, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'”
President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the project earlier this year, saying the project will happen “one day.” So maybe one day it will get made, just like that Ryan Johnson’S Star Wars project.
First, Lucasfilm has to release another new thing Star Wars movie at some point! We really have no idea what it is first Star Wars films since then The Rise of Skywalker will be. We’ll find out one day!
