Taika Waititi confirms he will not return to direct THOR 5 for Marvel Studios

A couple of weeks ago this was rumored Taika Waititi he wouldn’t return to directing Thor5 for Marvel Studios. The director behind Thor: Ragnarok AND Thor: Love and Thunder has now confirmed this news during an interview with Business Insider. When questioned about it, the director told them that he will focus on other film projects that he has signed:

“I know I won’t be involved… I’ll focus on these other films that I signed up for… So it’s been six, seven years. I imagine another ‘Thor’ will come much sooner.” than that…But I love Marvel, I love working with them and I love Chris.

“I would never feel like they were cheating on me. We have an open relationship, and it’s like they want to see other people, I’m happy about that. I would still go back to bed with them one day.”

So while Waititi won’t be back for Thor5, is very open to playing in the Marvel movie sandbox again at some point. After excessive stupidity Thor: Love and Thunder, however, I’m fine with Waititi not directing the next chapter in the franchise. I’m much more interested in watching the other original film projects he makes.

When he previously talked about what he would like to see Thor5Waititi said: “What’s left for him to do? It has to be something that feels like it’s continuing the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to deal with that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome. I don’t think that we can have a weaker villain than Hela. I feel like we need to take a step up from there and add a villain that is somehow more formidable.”

Hemsworth previously said of his character’s move into a potential fifth film: “I mean, if you look at Thor one and two, they were pretty similar. Ragnarok AND Love and thunder: similar. I think it’s just about reinventing it. And I had a very unique opportunity with as well [Avengers] endless war AND End of the game doing very drastic things with the character; I like it, I like keeping people on their toes, it keeps me on my toes, it keeps me involved. And I’ve said this before: when it gets too familiar, I think there’s a risk of becoming lazy, I think, like ‘Ah, I know what I’m doing,’ you know? So I don’t know – again, I don’t even know if I’ll be invited again. But if I were, I think it would have to be a drastically different version – tone, everything. Just for my sanity [laughs].”

What would you like to see happen in the story of the fifth Thor film? Would you like to see it directed?
