The curtain falls Loki Season 2 and what a spectacular conclusion to the story! I finally got the chance to watch the final episode and I loved how this season wrapped up the story! From the beginning with the aptly titled episode “Glorious Purpose,” the series develops into a time-intertwining narrative that concludes Loki’s final journey in the MCU in stunning fashion. In the finale, Loki achieves his glorious purpose through a selfless act, finding himself alone on a throne, with the immense responsibility of holding the multiverse together.
The episode cleverly intertwines with the series premiere, creating an ouroboros effect where the end returns to the beginning. As Loki faces the collapse of the Time Frame and the erasure of the multiverse, fans watch as he is trapped in a time loop, just like in the film. groundhog day, reliving centuries to learn what he needs to prevent cosmic catastrophe. In the process, he learns that the TVA device is a security system to protect the sacred timeline.
Loki finds himself faced with a difficult choice… save the sacred timeline or choose not to exist at all. However, by being able to control his time scroll and time loop, Loki ends up becoming incredibly powerful, seemingly more powerful than any variant of Kang. So instead of succumbing to one of the two choices Kang had given him, he created a third. With his Asgardian magic mixed with his learned knowledge, Loki personally intervenes to hold the multiverse together.
Ultimately, Loki had to destroy the Time Frame so that the TVA and the multiverse could be free of Kang. This could easily be Marvel’s way out of not having to use the villain Kang again if they decide to take the Multiverse Saga in a different direction.
The visually stunning sequence of Loki reshaping the multiverse signifies his defiance of the predetermined mold of the One Who Remains. The final image we see of Loki sees him beautifully rebuilding the multiverse in the form of Yggdrasil, the mythical “World Tree”, which is an arrangement his father Odin taught him.
Despite Loki’s desire to avoid loneliness, he now sits alone for eternity, holding the multiverse together. One question fans may have is whether Loki has the power to change or influence what happens in the multiverse now that he holds it together, but even if he did, I doubt he would. He has become a silent guardian rather than an active participant in mortal affairs. He became the hero of the story.
A significant change in the second season is the transformation of the TVA from authoritarian workers to heroes. Loki’s sacrifice grants the TVA a second chance to realize its goal: to defend the multiverse from Kang variants. The delicate balance between free will and responsibility becomes the TVA’s ongoing challenge, to ensure they do not return to their authoritarian nightmare.
I have no idea what the future holds for Loki or some of the other characters like Sylvie, Mobius, and Ravonna. The door is certainly open for the continuation of Loki and these characters’ story, but fans can only speculate on where this might lead. We also know that the events of the story could have major consequences for the future of the MCU, but again we can only speculate on what those things might be.
One thing is certain, Loki The season 2 finale delivers a powerful and satisfying culmination to the God of Deception’s journey, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the future of the MCU’s post-multiverse upheaval.
