In her memoirs My name is BarbaraStreisand recalled being in bed with Brolin. He told her, “I don’t want to fall asleep.” When asked why, he replied, “Because I’m going to miss you.”

Streisand told the story in 1997 20/20 Interview with Barbara Walters. Songwriter Diane Warren watched, wrote down the statement, and later used it in the lyrics i don’t want to miss anything.

The song was later used in the film Armageddonand received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

“It was so satisfying to see so many people respond to Jim’s words,” Streisand wrote. “Well, no wonder…me too!” She later claimed that was the moment she knew she was going to marry Brolin, and the two have been married since 1998.
