Scott Stuber, Netflix’s head of film, provides an update on Chris Hemsworth’s action sequel EXTRACTION 3

Fans loved the first two Extraction film on Netflix, starring Chris Hemsworth in the lead role of Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary. The second film raised the stakes, he added Idris Elba to the cast, and fans of the series were thrilled to hear that a third film was in the works. Unfortunately, due to the long strikes in Hollywood, Extraction 3 was pulled from the schedule and put on the back burner, but Netflix head of theater Scott Stuber gave us an update.

Stuber attended an event with Collider and, when asked about the threequel, said:

“You know, you have to find the right thing. I think the second one was so good because it was emotional and complex. It reminds me a little of when I worked on the Bourne films. Tony Gilroy did a great job in the second, making it exciting and getting that kind of activation towards Franka [Potente’s] death. So, this had the same kind of family background around Chris [Hemsworth’s] motivation. Take Idris [Elba] in the franchise it was an interesting way to evolve it. So we’re waiting on the script and working hard, but it would be great to have it back. I mean, what those guys did was really great in that franchise.

Stuber went on to admit that the Extraction team “lost a little bit of momentum” due to the ongoing strike, and that’s one of the reasons why Extraction 3 hasn’t officially been added to Netflix’s schedule. He revealed that the hope is that as soon as the actors can reach an agreement on fair compensation, it will finally be time to “get back to what everyone does best, which is storytelling.”
