Jake Gyllenhaal would be nominated for the role of Reed Richards in Marvel’s FANTASTIC FOUR

One of the latest casting rumors from Marvel Studios Fantastic Four the film says so Jake Gyllenhaal is in the running for the role of Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic. This report comes from reliable inside scooper Daniel Richtman, but it’s still hard for me to believe.

He shared on social media: “They haven’t done the casting yet but now that the strike is over they will do it straight away. First, let’s see if Jake Gyllenhaal will accept the offer for Reed Richards.

What makes this hard for me to believe is the fact that Gyllenhaal has already played a major character in the MCU as the villain Mysterio. So it would seem really strange to see Gyllenhaal as Mr. Fantastic. This would seem more like a What if…? Marvel story scenario, and there’s also the whole alternate universe thing they might play with the multiverse, but who knows! I guess it wouldn’t be the strangest thing Marvel has done.

Adam Driver he was previously rumored to have the role of Reed Richards, and Venessa Kirby he was said to be ready for Sue Storm. Once the actors’ strike is over, Marvel will be able to move forward with casting the film and it will be interesting to see who ends up in the lead roles.

Fantastic Four is currently in development with WandaVision Matt Shakman set to direct the film. The film is currently scheduled for release in 2025. He previously teased that this film will be very different from anything we’ve seen in the MCU thus far, saying:

“It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we’re doing things very differently from a story perspective, from an approach to a cinematic perspective, which really suits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and certainly unlike anything Marvel you’ve ever seen before.

Speaking about the pre-production work done on the film, he said:

“We’ve been non-stop. Despite the strikes, yes, we’ve been working with effects and production design and building our world, and it’s been incredibly exciting. You know, how do you translate those skills into live-action in a dynamic way?” ways? Because some things that work beautifully in John Byrne and Jack Kirby are a little harder when you spin them. How do you make sure things are exciting but also based on a scientific approach, which is also part of the Fantastic Four? that I love? There are some things I’m really excited about. I can’t say too much, you know?”

Kevin Feige he also talked about the film saying that the first Marvel family will be a great pillar of the future of the MCU. He said:

“The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We’ve talked about mutants and the whole aspect of the Marvel world, but the Fantastic Four are the basis for everything that came after in the comics. There have certainly been versions of it [on screen], but they never inhabit the MCU narrative. And that’s something that’s really exciting for us. People will start hearing more about it soon. We think this will be a great pillar of the MCU in the future, just as they have been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.”

Marvel Producer Stefano Broussard previously promised that the film will be a true celebration of the source material from the comics:

“I don’t presume to know everything about that movie; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, which goes back to Iron Man and the casting of Tony that I think has resonated today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They’re older than me, and I imagine they’re older than you too. I’ve been around a while for a reason, [so we] lean on that.

I really hope this movie delivers something awesome and unique. Fantastic Four arrives in theaters May 2, 2025.
