Doctor who showrunner Russell T. Davies he recently revealed that before returning to the sci-fi series, Marvel Studios contacted him and asked if he would develop a British Marvel series as showrunner, but was not told what it was. During an interview with GamesRadar, he shared:
“I was asked to host a British Marvel show, but [they said] “We can’t tell you what it is.” To this day I still watch them and can’t figure out what a show it would have been. Obviously I’m planning on doing a British Marvel show that I’ve never seen. It happened?”
It would be interesting to know what series it could have been. Maybe it was Secret Invasion, set mostly in the UK and featuring several British actors. Or perhaps Marvel was looking to develop a Captain Britan series at some point? At this point we can only speculate on what the plan was.
Regardless, Davies obviously didn’t take the job and is now looking to develop and expand the Doctor Who universe for Disney.
The first of Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials, starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate, will air on the BBC on 25 November.
