It looks like Marvel Studios has a second R-rated film in development with the next film Lama project. This news comes from the director of the film Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country), who told Deadline, “They gave me the R, which is so important.” She continued teasing:
“We’re going to have fun because Mahershala is a really profound actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness that he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for this. He has dignity and integrity, but there’s a ferocity that he usually keeps beneath the surface. I want to free him and put him on the screen.
Blade will be the second R-rated film released by Marvel Studios, the first being Shawn Levy AND Ryan Reynolds’imminent Deadpool 3. I wasn’t sure if Marvel would let Blade pass with an R rating, so this is a pleasant surprise! Marvel will allow the blood to flow properly in the vampire movie.
The film’s screenplay was initially written by Michael Starbury (When they see us) AND Nic Pizzolatto (True detective) is now working on the new draft of the screenplay. Mahershala Ali, My GothicAND Delroy Lindo they are destined to star in the film.
It was previously reported that Marvel was looking to adopt “a darker tone for this film than other MCU projects in the past.” So much so that they wanted to go all-in with an R rating. It’ll be fun! We will actually get a dark and twisted Marvel vampire horror movie.
Lama it was created by the writer Marv Wolfmann and artist Gene Colan for the 1973s Dracula’s Tomb No. 10. He is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire while giving birth to him.
