Guillermo del Toro once compared his film Jabba The Hutt STAR WARS to SCARFACE

Guillermo del Toro recently confirmed that the Star Wars The project he was developing for Lucasfilm would focus on Jabba The Hutt. He was developing that project with David S. Goyerand a past interview resurfaced where the director shared his idea for the film and compared it Scarface.

In 2015, he told Happy Sad Confused:

“When I talked to them, when I talked [Lucasfilm’s] John Knoll about it, and I said, if I ever do it [a ‘Star Wars’ film], I would love to do Jabba the Hutt’s Scarface. You know? His rise in the crime family. But it’s not a plan, I’m not announcing anything, don’t take it back [as a thing].”

The director continued by saying:

“I like monsters. I love monsters, and Jabba is a) basically the same shirt size as me, and b) I love him, man. Strangely enough I feel more and more inclined to do stranger things; do things a little more cautiously, a little more eccentric, so I don’t know.”

It’s a shame that del Toro’s Jabba The Hutt movie was never made. I would have loved to see him tell his story about Jabba. Previously he also compared the film to The Godfathersaid:

“I would do the kind of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. First, because he is the character who is most similar to me and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt-type mafia, a very complex coup. I love the character.”

Speaking recently about the Jabba Star Wars project, the director said:

“We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy. We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 scripts that just goes away. they go. “

He then spoke about how he felt after the project was scrapped by Lucasfilm, saying:

“Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great things. We learned.’ You can never be ungrateful towards life. Whatever life sends you, there’s something to learn from it. So, you know, I trust the universe, I do it. When something doesn’t happen, I say, ‘Why?’ I try to have a dialogue with myself: ‘Why didn’t this happen?’ And the more you swim against the tide of the universe, the less you realize where you’re going.”

I think Lucasfilm missed something special by not moving forward with del Toro’s Jabba project. I think it would have been great Star Wars movie.
