President Joe Biden became more concerned about artificial intelligence after watching MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE

As you may have heard, President Joe Biden recently signed an executive order establishing new standards and safety measures regarding artificial intelligence. It turns out that his concern about AI increased after watching Tom Cruise’S Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, part one.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed told the Associated Press that the president was also “shocked and alarmed” after seeing “false images of himself via artificial intelligence” and being introduced to the “terrifying technology of voice cloning.”

Biden’s concern about artificial intelligence then grew after the viewing Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, part one at Camp David. Reed explained, “If he hadn’t already been worrying about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he would have seen a lot more to worry about.”

Mission: Impossible – Showdown sees Ethan Hunt and his team on a mission to defeat a sentient and dangerous artificial intelligence known as The Entity. He has the power to control the world and steer things in a dangerous direction.

According to the report: “Biden was deeply curious about the technology in the months of meetings that led to the drafting of the ordinance.” He met with scientists who explained the potential benefits of artificial intelligence, as well as its dangers.

Over the years there have been plenty of films made about the dangers of artificial intelligence such as Terminator movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, M3GANand also the Child’s play remake. There are others, but I guess Mission Impossible it made it feel real to him.

As for the executive order, it will be implemented in the next 90 to 365 days and the White House says it “directs the most sweeping actions ever taken to protect Americans from the potential risks of artificial intelligence systems.” It includes the development of standards, tools and tests to ensure the safety of artificial intelligence systems; and require AI developers to share safety test results and other critical information with the U.S. government. It includes guidance for “content authentication and watermarking to clearly label AI-generated content” to protect people from AI-based fraud.
