Kevin Feige talks about Marvel movies before the MCU and how it was so hard to not have control over the first few movies

President Marvel Kevin Feige has worked hard to build a carefully constructed intertwined universe that connects all the superhero stories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He had this vision in mind long before he was tasked with bringing it to life alongside many talented writers, directors, crew and stars, so he now admits that the hardest part of building that world was seeing it misused before he could go in and make it happen. direct his path.

In the recently published book he tells everything, MCU: The Kingdom of Marvel Studios(via TheDirect), Feige said he hated Marvel Studios’ lack of “control” over the films preceding the MCU.

Before the MCU launched in 2008 with Iron Manwe saw a 2003 Hulk film, by Ben Affleck Reckless2005 Fantastic Four, Electra, Ghost Knightand more.

In explaining the problem with other studios owning the rights to Marvel characters, producer David Maisel referenced New Line Cinema’s previous ownership of Iron Man, saying:

“Your character is in limbo and someone else controls it. When you make a movie contract for a license, you’re freezing animation, you’re freezing a lot of other things. You’re handing your babies to someone, and nothing happens.”

Even so, both Avi Arad and Kevin Feige still tried to influence those productions, but not everyone was open to suggestions. Feige admitted: “We suggested but they didn’t listen. We didn’t have control. I hated it.” As further evidence of Feige’s frustration, Marvel writer Craig Kyle reported the current studio president’s early efforts to “get the rights back” in order to secure “big movies”:

“From the moment I got to Marvel, Kevin told Avi [Arad] we have to take back our rights. Avi was in a situation where he represented all of Marvel. He was the face of Marvel Studios. Kevin was there to make great films. This could never be a guarantee until we can actually control the process.”

It was amazing to see the property owned like X-Men, Reckless, Fantastic Four AND Dead Pool end with Marvel, but fans are still wary of whether or not the studio can make another great film series like the Infinity Saga. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
