New details on the BLACULA movie reboot scheduled for 2025

In 2021, it was announced that the classic 1972 blaxploitation horror film Blacula was getting a reboot from MGM with Deon Taylor (The Intruder) directing. Well, the project is still moving forward and while reporting a 50th anniversary screening of the original classic will take place at the Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills on October 24, Variety reports that the Blacula reboot is “scheduled for release next Halloween”.

The report also offers the following details about the project: “The new film is a modern retelling of the 1972 film, directed by William Crain and starring William Marshall as Blacula. The reboot picks up where the original saga left off, following the 1973 sequel Scream Blacula Scream, and will be set in a post-coronavirus pandemic metropolitan city.

Here is the full synopsis of the film: “Blacula is an ancient African prince who is cursed by Dracula after he fails to agree to end the slave trade. Blacula is buried and awakens 200 years later ready to avenge the deaths of his ancestors and those responsible for robbing his people of their jobs, culture, and heritage while appropriating it for profit.

Deon Taylor also co-wrote the screenplay with Micah Ranum, and said in a statement: “Blacula is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious black franchises and is so important to the culture as it spawned a wave of Blaxploitation horror films , who have changed the way of life”. game for how our people were seen on the big screen.”

He continued, “Growing up in Gary, IN, I loved watching Blacula and was so proud that Richard Brown was another Gary native. It’s mind-blowing that this franchise has never had the energy or appreciation that other genre films have received over the years, but this reboot is about to change all that. Thank you to Aaron, Brenda and the Bron team, as well as everyone at MGM, for joining us on this adventure. We promise to bring new life to the iconic “Blacula” character that will resonate with audiences around the world!”

There’s an opportunity here to do something incredibly fun, and I can’t wait to see what the director ends up doing with this film.
