Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN will be “the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie”

Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN will be “the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie”

Producer Jason Blum he is very confident about it Todd McFarlaneit is long awaited To produce The movie will get made and has said it will be released in 2025. This is a project McFarlane has been trying to get done forever, and if it actually happens, it will be the “Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”

During New York Comic Con, Blum was asked about the film and he explained:

“Yes, I’ll bring the Blumhouse touch [to the Spawn movie]. It will be edgy and original compared to other superhero films. It’s definitely going to feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”

Yes, I had never really thought about it. It will be interesting to see how Blumhouse handles a superhero movie. It seems like Spawn is the perfect character to start with. It will be interesting to see if this movie ends up being a big hit and actually launches a successful Spawn movie franchise.

Over the years several drafts of a screenplay have been written, the most recent version was developed by Scott Silver, Malcolm SpellmanAND Matteo Mixon. During a previous interview, McFarlane said he was only 30 pages away from completing the script before the writers’ strike. “We were in the middle of writing the script and then the writers’ strike hit. So, basically, it came to an abrupt end, if you will. But they were pretty far along, so I assume they gave it a lot of thought during the strike. They know what to write, the last 30 pages, that’s all they need to finish. So as soon as the strike ends, I assume they’ll quickly let’s finish it. We’ll do some rewrites. We’ll go to Hollywood. We’ll find a buyer, maybe we’ll find a couple of buyers, we’ll get into a bidding war. And then we’ll come back out and make the announcement that says, ‘We’ve got the funding, the studio and the production date ready. It’s time to go.'”

Jamie Foxx he’s still attached to the film and will later take on the role of Spawn, and recently speaking about Foxx’s involvement, McFarlane said: “As long as Jamie doesn’t say he can’t, he’s still my guy. I’m very loyal to people and Jamie was my boyfriend and he was my boyfriend. He had a little setback and says he will go back to the top of the mountain. I have no doubt. I know Jamie: he is a very strong-willed and determined human being. He then he says to me, “Don’t worry about me, Todd.” I’ll be there when the bell rings. I will be there.’ So I have complete and total confidence.”

McFarlane also spoke about whether it’s now or never to make his film, and explained: “Something’s going to give in the next few months, right? There’s too many people pushing in that direction, again I got a call later today because of this.” very topic. You can imagine Spider-Man makes a billion dollars and everyone kind of becomes… I mean, they were already crazy, now they’ve gone twice as crazy. I mean, they got crazy when the only movies that were making money were superheroes, and then Venom goes and smashes it, and then Spider-Man comes and crushes it, so now they’re kind of unique in their mentality about the kind of ideas that they have. So something has to happen. We’ll never get to the top of the mountain if we can’t do it now, with everyone wanting to do it now. Fingers crossed. I would say it’s now or never.”

The film was previously described as “Spawn meets David Fincher” and a “bloody” and “dirty thing”. Speaking previously about his take on the story, McFarlane explained: “There are two important roles in the script. There’s obviously kind of Spawn himself, although in a strange way he’s not the most important role, and then there “He’s the cop. The cop is this Twitch character that’s been there since issue 1. Twitch is the role in that, and I kind of refer to him as my Sheriff Brody, who’s the sheriff in the movie Jaws. Although it was called Jaws, Jaws didn’t really talk much in his movie, right? It just came at the right time to make the movie worthwhile.”

McFarlane previously confirmed that the film will be rated R and that the script he wrote is “scary and “badass.” He described Spawn as the Jaws of the film, saying: “The world will be real, except for one thing that happens . move. You’ll never see a guy in a rubber suit… This will be my Jaws shark.”

He explained his vision for the character, describing him as the boogeyman, and also shared some of the things we won’t see in the film: “In the background, there’s this thing moving, this boogeyman. That boogeyman It just seems to be something that you and I, intellectually, know Spawn is. Is it going to look the same as it did in the first movie? No. Is it going to have a supervillain that it fights? No. It’s going to be the wraith, the ghost.”

Producer Jason Blum he also previously said of the project: “What excited me is that Spawn is kind of the last great untapped comic book. So it seemed like an amazing opportunity. It took longer than I hoped to get the story right, but we’re still working on it.” Blum also said that the reboot “is going to be very different, it’s going to be very edgy.”

I really hope they can pull this off.
