As you know, there are many projects announced by Lucasfilm over the years that have never actually been produced. There is a reason for this, as none of these projects were ready to be announced because none of them were ready. But it turns out they were pressured by Disney Studios to announce all these projects.
The revelation was made in the recently published book, MCU: The Kingdom of Marvel Studiosand not only were they pressuring Lucasfilm to make these announcements before they were ready, but they were also pressuring Marvel Studios.
Some of this occurred under the leadership of Disney’s now ousted CEO Bob Chapek, as both franchises were going through a rough patch during his brief tenure at the helm of the Mouse House. Disney was obviously trying to get fans excited about the future of these franchises, but it ultimately ended up becoming more of an annoyance. Now, every time Lucasfilm makes a movie announcement, fans think, “Yeah, right. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
Some of Star Wars projects that failed to become reality are New Republic Rangers, Landau, A story of droidsAND Rogue Squadron. However, Lando is back on track and is now being developed as a film Stephen AND Donald Glover.
There have been many others Star Wars film projects announced over the years that never went anywhere. Some of the other projects that have been announced over the years include Taika WaititiS Star Wars film, which is the closest to going into production. Ryan Johnsonthe trilogy of Kevin Feige’s project and the team behind it game of Thrones, David Benioff AND DB Weissthey were also developing a large Star Wars project that at a certain point ended up being scrapped.
The funny thing is that about a year ago a report surfaced that Disney had told Lucasfilm to stop announcing new ones Star Wars creative projects and collaborators. This was later Bob Iger come back.
