Neon has released a full director’s trailer Michael Mann’S Ferrariand it seems to tell the intense and dramatic story of the Italian sports car entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari, played by Adam Driver. This film has been a long-time passion project for Mann and it looks like he has made a fantastic film. Mann is a truly talented director and I have enjoyed the films he has made over the years. It will be good news.
In the film “It’s the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, former driver Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife Laura had built from scratch ten years earlier. Their unstable marriage was put to the test by the loss of their son Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to recognize the son Piero he had with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, its drivers’ passion for victory pushes them to the limit as they embark on the perilous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.
The driver is joined in the film by Penelope Cruz as Ferrari’s wife, Laura Ferrari and Shailene Woodley in the role of his lover Lina Lardi. The film is also the protagonist Patrick Dempsey in the role of fellow racing driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell as pilot Peter Collins, Sara Gadon like Linda Christian, and Gabriele Leone in the role of the driver Alfonso de Portago.
Mann made this film without ties to major studios, something he is proud of, and said: “The origins of the film, the content of the script and the film you saw do not fit the type of film that would be embraced by conventional studio system. It’s really fitting that this is an independent film distributed by Neon, a very independent distributor.
The film was adapted by Mann and the late Troy Kennedy-Martin from Brock Yate’s 1991 biography Enzo Ferrari – The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine. The film will be released Christmas 2023. Enjoy the trailer!
