Patrick Stewart explains why he wants to explore Jean-Luc Picard more in a new STAR TREK movie

Patrick Stewart he really pushed hard for something new Star Trek film that would continue the story of Jean-Luc Picard after the events of Star Trek: Picard. That show obviously reinvigorated his love for the franchise and the character he’s played over the years and he’s not ready to give it up just yet.

In a recent interview with Wired, Stewart was asked about the Star Trek movie he wants to make and explained what he hoped to achieve with Jean-Luc Picard in another final film. He said:

“Well, it would be: Let’s explore the inside of this man’s head further. His fears, his anger, his frustration, his questions about all these things. There’s a moment, I’m not quite sure where it goes in the series… Well, there are two moments. One is when Picard doesn’t know what to do. He’s perplexed. And we’ve never seen that in The Next Generation. There’s also a moment when he’s really scared. And these two suggestions alone, I think we’ll make him an interesting study for another film.”

Yes, that sounds good to me, and I’m sure many other fans would love to see another Star Trek movie with Picard and the other members of The Next Generation crew back in action for another space adventure. Stewart had previously spoken about attempting to make the film, saying:

“I’m gently pushing Paramount to let us make a single Picard movie. Not a next generation film, as we’ve already made four. This would be an expansion and deepening of the universe as we saw it in Star Trek: Picard. I discussed it with Jonathan [Frakes]Brent [Spiner]and LeVar [Burton]and they’re all in on the game.

While Paramount+ said that the ending Star Trek: Picard The season is the final adventure of the Enterprise-D crew, the entire cast of the show wants to come back for more! Stewart also previously said:

“I think we could make a movie, a movie based on Picard. Not necessarily on Picard but on all of us. And take a lot of these wonderful elements, particularly from the third season of Picard, and extract from them what I think could be an extraordinary movie . I keep telling people and mentioning it, and so far there hasn’t been any enthusiastic response, but it could very well happen. And I think that would be a very appropriate way to say, ‘And goodbye folks.'”

There’s no indication that Paramount Pictures is considering it, but they’d be stupid not to. It’s not like they managed to get any of their other Star Trek film projects off the ground. This is one they could actually carry forward and there is an audience eager to watch it.
