The 1981 horror film classic, The house near the cemetery, is getting a 4K Ultra HD version thanks to Arrow Video. Just in time for the Halloween season! The film came from the director Lucio Fulci and is the final film in his “Gates of Hell” trilogy. We’ve included a trailer for the film along with a clip promoting the film’s release.
This is one of those horror movies that I discovered in the horror section of our local video store while I was in high school. I saw it on VHS and I liked it! It will be nice to watch the restored 4K version of the film. I love watching these old horror movies from the 70’s and 80’s! This movie is freaking crazy! The synopsis reads:
The Boyles – Lucy (Catriona MacColl, The Beyond), Norman (Paolo Malco, The New York Ripper) and their young son Bob (Giovanni Frezza, Demons) – move from New York City to an old house in rural New England. But the evil force that lurks in the basement has already taken over the previous occupant and now has its eyes on the new owners. Soon, the unsuspecting family will become all too familiar with the dark secret of the monstrous Dr. Freudstein…
Lucio Fulci’s film showcases the evil master at his blood-soaked best. As the ’70s gave way to the ’80s, Fulci increasingly specialized in dark, ultraviolent horror films that would earn him the affectionate nickname “the Godfather of Gore.” “The third and final installment of his ‘Gates of Hell’ trilogy, 1981’s The House by the Cemetery, showcases the malevolent master at his blood-soaked best.”
The film’s cast includes Ania Pieroni (Darkness) AND Dagmar Lassander (Fulci The black Cat). The creative team also included “sumptuous widescreen cinematography by Fulci’s longtime collaborator Sergio Salvati (Zombie flesh eaters) and an unnerving soundtrack by Walter Rzzati (1990: Bronx Warriors), this new feature-packed edition resurrects Fulci’s blood-soaked classic in a stunning 4K restoration from the original photographic negative.
Both the Limited Edition 4K and Limited Edition Blu-ray sets will release in the UK on October 9, and there’s also an Arrow Store-exclusive limited edition 4K variant.
