BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM could have a sequel due to the popularity of women’s football

Soccer, which is called soccer in the United States, has grown in popularity over the years, especially women’s soccer. Then of course you have the hit series Ted Lassothe new and popular David Beckham documentary on Netflix, and then there is Ryan Reynolds AND Rob McElhenney’S Welcome to Wrexham series.

Football is the main form of entertainment right now, director Gurinder Chadha is thinking it’s time for a Dreaming of Beckham Continuation. In an interview with Meter Chadha spoke about the growing popularity of women’s football and how this made her think about making the sequel, saying:

“I never really wanted to make a sequel to the film because I was just thinking about how to do it Parminder [Nagra] AND Keira [Knightley] I played it and Jonathan Rhys Meyers AND Archie Panjabi, I could never truly continue and create the same magic in the same way. But with the recent success of soccer, I feel like I’m starting to percolate an idea for a possible sequel of some kind.”

Dreaming of Beckham was published more than 20 years ago, the story revolves around Jesminder “Jess” Bhamra, a young British Indian woman with a deep passion for football, much to the dismay of her traditional Sikh parents who have specific expectations for their daughter, particularly regarding its future. and marriage. When Jess is offered the opportunity to join a local women’s soccer team, she becomes friends with her teammate, Jules, and the two face the challenges of their respective family pressures and social norms.

As Jess secretly pursues his dream, the narrative dives into the clash between his family’s traditional values and his desire to play football, inspired by his idol, David Beckham. The film is a wonderful and touching coming-of-age story that audiences loved.

I think a sequel to the movie would be really good right now because there’s actually a really big market for it. Would you be interested in looking at a Dreaming of Beckham Continuation? The question is: will the story include the same characters from the original film or will it follow new characters? I imagine it would probably be a little of both.
