The Exorcist: Believer it’s not a good movie. I went to see it over the weekend and was very disappointed with how the film turned out. I was actually surprised at how bad the movie turned out. I mean, if you’re going to try to resuscitate The exorcistyou’d better make sure it at least reaches the level of the original William Friedkin-movie set from 1973, but this film fell far short of it. In fact, I think so The Exorcist II AND III they were actually better movies than this one. The film is receiving negative reviews from many people.
As of this writing, the film’s opening currently sits at $28 million at the box office, which doesn’t look very good with the $400 million the studios paid for the franchise. The film was directed by Halloween director David Gordon Greenand has an entire trilogy planned for the film, which the studio will have to stick to due to the amount of money paid for the rights to the franchise.
During a recent interview with THR, Green talked about his plans for the trilogy, which surprisingly he doesn’t even have a plan for!? He defines himself as “the least rigid director in the city”. He then went on to explain that it all starts with trust, “and then it’s about intuition, improvisation, opportunity and these things that come to light. So I have a roadmap of what I’d like to do with this trilogy and some themes I’d like to address and some philosophies I’d like to explore.”
He went on to explain, “I still haven’t processed the experience behind this creation and I don’t think I will until the movie comes out. So I’m going to process it, take a deep breath, and see how much of my instincts and original ideas apply to where we might go with this. And then I’ll take it from there. But I’m far from rigid. I like to keep things loose. I’m always evolving with my creative collaborators, especially my actors and actresses in front of the camera, and I bring their ideas and authenticity to the stage I’m trying to create.
When asked if he intended to direct the next two sequels, he said: “I think the hope is… My intention is just to start making things, and when those plans come together, if I find myself in that situation, [The Exorcist: Deceiver] director’s chair, I’d be thrilled. But right now, I’m navigating it from a story perspective and looking at the reality of my life as I pivot.
I was actually looking forward to it because I’m a fan of the franchise, but after seeing this first movie, I have no desire to see how the other two movies play out. It’s crazy, this movie was boring to me! Everything was monotonous, flat and uninteresting. It’s a shame, and I was sad that the movie was as bad as it was.
What do you think of the film? You know how I feel! Did any of you like it? Was there something I missed?
