After John Wick: Chapter 4 came out there was a lot of talk about the future of the franchise and whether we would see a chapter 5. It seemed that the director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves they questioned the future. But, before that, the director had previously said that he and Reeves had done it John Wick movie ideas for days and that he could make these movies for the rest of his career:
“I like making these films because there are no limits. We create our own mythology and have a studio that stays away from us and supports us in wacky decisions. If people go to see the movie, and it makes money, and then come back to us, Keanu and I would have ideas for days. I could live here for the rest of my career.”
Well, Stahelski recently revealed that he has ideas already written for the future of the franchise. In fact, he has ideas for at least the next five films! Speaking to Inverse, the director said:
“I’ve got notebooks and shitty notebooks behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We’ve got ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked down. I have no interest in taking money to bring John Wick back for anything. Is he a character I like? Obviously. And if I did a couple of John Wick movies, great. Keanu would do one again in a second if we had a good story. We leave it open. I know the studio would like us to say we have another one.
Stahelski went on to say:
“Keanu and I are always interested in this, but we leave it up in the air to see if we have anything we’d like to see. Secondly, we have a studio that is very enthusiastic and not only financially motivated, but also interested in seeing what we could do with it. So, this year they were very kind of us about branching. I know the term is “spin-offs” or “auxiliary companies” or whatever you want to call it. Keanu and I went back and all said, “Look, we have ideas for the John Wick world, other characters that aren’t John Wick-centric.” Would you guys be interested in exploring this?’ And they were great and said, “Yes, we would be very interested.” Characters that weren’t in any of the movies and had fallen by the wayside because they just didn’t fit into our plots, and some existing characters that we’d like to see more of.
John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk previously talked about the action film series and how Keanu Reeves really wanted his character to die at the end of John Wick Chapter 4. He explains that Reeves was physically and emotionally exhausted from making these films :
“After the second, third and fourth movies, making these movies is really exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally. At the end, he always says, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy he’s just a shadow of his former self because he goes off and tries. He was like, ‘I want to get killed permanently at the end of this movie.'”
Regardless of the president of the Lionsgate film group Joe Drake I previously said that the studio isn’t done with John Wick. He explained: “We are not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It depends on what alternative there will be.” He went on to add that “there are many different things we can do. I’ve seen this movie five times in the last week. I can see the way the audience moves him.”
When previously talking about John Wick: Chapter 5, producer Erica Lee he said, “I think in all the movies at this point in the process, we were like, ‘We’re never doing this again!’ They are very difficult and exhausting to shoot. “John Wick 4″ required 97 days of night shooting, and Keanu [Reeves] he kicks him. Everyone at this point says, ‘We’ve had seven previews, oh my God, we’re done!'”
Once the exhaustion has passed, however, Lee explains that everyone wants to get back together to do it again: “For the last two films – both came out in Japan a couple of months later – everyone had some time “To rest and think to what we would have done, what we could do. I think we all remember how much we love each other and these movies. So yes, I’m confident. Is the John Wick character dead? Are there other versions? Are there different stories to tell? I think so.”
Reeves recently spoke about returning for another film, saying, “I guess I’ll have to rely on never say never.” […] To me, it’s really fitting that John Wick finds peace.”
John Wick Chapter 5 it is also confirmed that it is under development. I’m pretty sure we’ll see Reeves as John Wick again. I would be very surprised if we didn’t.
