Academy Releases New Regulations and Rules for the 95th Oscar, Movies Should Only Re-qualify Theatrically

In a sign that everything is back to normal, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is returning to its pre-pandemic guidelines and will no longer allow digital screening room as a scoring tool. Instead, it says there are still six U.S. metropolitan qualifying games left in Los Angeles County, New York City, Bay Area, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta as movie theaters have reopened, and the Rules also apply to the general entry categories. Film(s. Feature films must have a seven-day theatrical release before being shown in any other medium with specific requirements. Drive-in entries are still permitted.

The Academy has also confirmed that the 95th Annual Academy Awards are officially back in the calendar year, so any feature film must have a release date between January 1 and December 31, 2022. March and December 2021. The 93rd Academy Awards extended tenure 14 months from January 2020 to February 2021 due to cuts to movie theaters and movie screenings.

The Board of Governors has approved other minor changes to the 95 Award, including:

  • In Documentary Categories: Two categories have been renamed:
    • documentary feature film
    • documentary short film
  • In Music (Original Song) Submit up to three songs from any movie in the category.
  • In Sound In the category, producers are required to submit their films to Sound Branch members, especially if the release date is after the pre-voting cycle has opened. Special occasion requests for eligible candidates must be received by the general admission date of November 15, 2022. In addition, candidate showcase clips (baking) should not exceed 10 minutes per title. .

The campaign guidelines have also been updated to determine how companies and individuals can distribute the films and achievements of Academy members who qualify for the 95th Academy Awards. Access to the Academy screening room will continue to be available for all relevant publications. Digital links to materials will be permitted under certain conditions. Film synopsis can no longer include credits, as film companies will now have the opportunity to submit credits to the academy screening room before nominations begin.

The 95th Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, March 12.
