AS Todd McFarlane continues his journey to get his new one To produce film coming out at Blumhouse, which he talks about Jamie Foxx, who will still be the protagonist of the film. Many fans wondered if Foxx was still involved in the film, not only because it’s been so long since his casting was announced, but also because of a health issue he recently went through.
During an interview with ComingSoon, McFarlane was asked about Jamie Foxx and the health issues the actor has been having recently, and he explained that he has complete faith in Foxx, and as long as he wants to star in the film, the part is his :
“As long as Jamie doesn’t say he can’t, he’s still my boyfriend. I’m very loyal to people and Jamie was my boyfriend and he was my boyfriend. He had a little setback and says he will go back to the top of the mountain. I have no doubt. I know Jamie: he is a very strong-willed and determined human being. He then he says to me, “Don’t worry about me, Todd.” I’ll be there when the bell rings. I will be there.’ So I have complete and total confidence.”
That’s good to hear because I still like the idea of Foxx playing Spawn! He has been linked to the project since 2015. Jeremy Renner he has also been assigned to play on Twitch since 2018, but it is currently unclear whether or not Renner is still part of the project.
McFarlane recently offered an update on the most recent version of the script stating that it was only 30 pages away from completion before the writers’ strike. He said:
“We were in the middle of writing the script and then the writers’ strike hit. So, basically, it came to an abrupt end, if you will. But they were pretty far along, so I assume they gave it a lot of thought during the strike. They know what to write, the last 30 pages, that’s all they need to finish. So as soon as the strike ends, I assume they’ll quickly let’s finish it. We’ll do some rewrites. We’ll go to Hollywood. We’ll find a buyer, maybe we’ll find a couple of buyers, we’ll get into a bidding war. And then we’ll come back out and make the announcement that says, ‘We’ve got the funding, the studio and the production date ready. It’s time to go.'”
It seems like the script is always 30 pages away from completion. McFarlane went on to say:
“We were hoping, barring the strike, that this would happen this summer, this fall at the latest. That we would be able to do that, in a perfect world, I would get the movie and the news on Call of Duty at New York Comic Con. And there would only be one, two, and we would own the news cycle at New York Comic Con. But Spawn coming to Call of Duty will still be a gigantic piece in itself. It’s just, hopefully, in quick order, if we can follow it up with some movie noise, then it will keep the ball rolling.”
A few months ago Jason Blum said the film is in “very, very active development” and hopes the film will be released in 2025. McFarlane previously said it was time to make his film, now or never, and explained:
“Something’s going to give in the next few months, right? There’s too many people pushing in that direction, again I got a call later today on that very topic. You can imagine Spider-Man making a billion dollars and all in one It kind of gets a little… I mean, they were already crazy, now they’ve gone twice as crazy. I mean, they’ve gone crazy when the only movies that made money were superhero ones, and then Venom took the plunge, and then Spider-Man comes and obliterates it, so now they’re almost unique in their mindset about the kind of ideas they have. So something has to happen. We’ll never get to the top of the mountain if we can’t do it now, with everyone wanting to do it now. Fingers crossed. I’d say it’s now or never.”
The film was previously described as “Spawn meets David Fincher” and a “bloody” and “dirty thing”. Speaking previously about his take on the story, McFarlane explained:
“There are two important roles in the script. There’s obviously kind of Spawn himself, although strangely enough he’s not the most important role, and then there’s the cop. The cop is this Twitch character who’s been around since issue #1 Twitch is the role in this, and I kind of refer to him as my Sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the movie Jaws. Even though he was called Jaws, Jaws didn’t talk much in his movie, right? He just showed up at the right time to make the movie worthwhile.”
Producer Jason Blum he also previously said of the project: “What excited me is that Spawn is kind of the last great untapped comic. So it seemed like an amazing opportunity. It took longer than I hoped to get the story right, but we’re still working on it.” Blum also said that the reboot “is going to be very different, it’s going to be very edgy.”
Do you think Foxx will make a good Spawn if this movie ever comes to fruition?
