Jake Gyllenhaal was David Goyer’s top choice for the role of Batman in Christopher Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT trilogy

The screenwriter of The dark Knight Trilogy, David S. Goyer, recently shared a lot of behind-the-scenes insights into some of the projects he’s worked on over the years. When it comes to Christopher Nolanof the Batman films on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Goyer confirmed this Jake Gyllenhaal he was up for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Goyer wanted him to star in these films. She was Goyer’s first choice.

Speaking about Gyllenhaal, Goyer said:

“We talked about all kinds of things. There were a number of people who had auditioned and I had supported Gyllenhaal. I mean, Gyllenhaal is great, Christian Bale is great, so who knows what.

When asked if there was any audition footage of Gyllenhaal floating around in the Batman costume, he said, “I believe there is.” But he hasn’t come online yet.

I’ve always liked Gyllenhaal and while Bale was great as Batman, I think Gyllenhaal would have been great in the role as well. I imagine there’s an alternate universe out there where Gyllenhaal was cast as Batman, and I wouldn’t mind seeing what he would be like.

Maybe one day his audition will be posted online. What do you think about Gyllenhaal starring in Nolan’s Batman films? Would he work? Gyllenhaal was actually in the running too Matt Reeves’ The Batman in the early stages of development.
