David Sladethe director of Candy AND 30 days of nighthas made a new Halloween horror thriller titled Dark Harvest. The first trailer for the film introducing us to Halloween legend Sawtooth Jack has been released. It looks like a really good horror film and is an adaptation of Norman Partridge’s novel, which tells a great story. I’m very excited about this movie!
The film’s official description reads: “In a cursed city, the annual harvest becomes a brutal battle for survival. On Halloween 1963, Sawtooth Jack, a terrifying legend, emerges from the cornfields, threatening the town’s children. Groups of kids band together to defeat the killer scarecrow before midnight. Richie, a rebellious outcast, joins the race, motivated by his brother’s previous victory. As the hunt progresses, Richie makes a shocking discovery and is faced with a crucial choice to break the relentless cycle.
Movie stars Elizabeth Reaser (The Haunting of Hill House), Jeremy Davis (Hannibal), Luke Kirby (No man of God), Casey likes it (The birch) AND Emyri Crutchfield (Tell me your secrets).
The book description offers some additional insights: “The book is set during Halloween 1963 in a small Midwestern town where teenage boys eagerly confront the butcher knife-wielding October Boy, aka Ol’ Hacksaw Face aka Sawtooth Jack. “
Both the hunter and the hunted, “the October Boy is the prize in an annual rite of life and death. A teenager, Pete McCormick, knows that killing October Boy is his only chance to escape a dead-end future in the one-horse town. But before the night is over, Pete will look into the serrated face of horror and discover the terrifying true secret of October Boy.”
Dark Harvest will open at Alamo Drafthouse Theaters on October 11 before going digital on Friday, October 13. This is a movie I hope to see on the big screen!
