While the audience continues to enjoy the fantastic live-action A piece series, executive producers, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein AND Becky Clementsthey are talking about the show and its future.
Before the release of the series there were many skeptical fans of the anime and manga who didn’t think the creative team would be able to pull it off, but they did! The show has surprised a lot of people and even naysayers have embraced it and talk about how great it is.
Since the show has been so successful, there’s no doubt that Netflix will want more, but things are in a weird place right now with writers’ and actors’ strikes, so that’s something they couldn’t go with forward not even now. if they wanted it.
During a recent interview with Deadline, Adelstein was asked about hopes for a season two renewal, and he responded by saying, “We’re hoping for 12 seasons, there’s so much material.” It would be really cool to get 12 seasons and it’s certainly possible with all the source material! However, a more realistic expectation would be six seasons. Clements added:
“We have over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga… We have plans with Matt Owens about how we’re going to break up more seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we’d probably only use half the chapters in the manga. It could really continue all ‘infinite.
Clements was then asked if they had at least six seasons and she replied: “Oh yeah, easy. (laughs.)” she went on to talk about the path of the upcoming seasons, saying:
“Everything we do is in tune with Netflix, [manga publisher] Shueisha and Oda-san are part of that conversation. We definitely had more in-depth conversations about what we would do with Season 2 if we had the opportunity, and then less in-depth conversations about where we would go from Season 3 to Season 6. The only thing I would say is that we are all united in the parts of the manga that you absolutely cannot take away, and that is our guiding principle, the stories we know and the characters we know are important to the fans. So this is really the beginning of breaking future seasons. It will require a lot of conversations, but we feel fortunate to have the roadmap.”
I would really love for this creative team to tell a full and complete story with these characters! I know the stories are endless, but we know this series won’t go on forever, so I just hope they have a plan to get their story done and finish it so fans aren’t left hanging when the show ends.
