THE Taylor Swift the craze continues! I swear, it seems like no matter where she goes, in real life or online, everyone is talking about Taylor Swift because of that huge tour she’s been on. My kids wanted her tickets to her show so badly, but I couldn’t afford it! Tickets were so ridiculously expensive.
Well, it was recently announced that the Taylor Swift: The Tour of the Eras the concert film is hitting theaters. This is a theatrical concert experience that offers a closer look at his massive stadium tour.
The concert film will hit theaters in October and break all presale records. It turns out Swift’s next film has already earned over $37 million in presales from AMC, Regal, and Cinemark in just 24 hours. To put that into perspective, that beats day one presales of Disney and Lucsfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $20 million.
It is madness! But Swift obviously has an epic fan following. It will be really interesting to see how The Eras Tour performs at the overall box office.
According to Deadline, the cinematic experience “is currently projected to make $70 million in its opening weekend. For comparison, here’s what a few other successful concert films did in their opening weekends: In 2008, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert grossed $31 million in its opening weekend and 65, $2 million total. In 2009, Michael Jackson’s This Is It grossed $23.2 million in its first weekend and $72 million overall. In 2011, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never opened to $29.5 million and earned $73 million.
AMC said in a press release, “AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history appears to have been able to meet the growing demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets first go on sale. guests want to be the first to buy their tickets online there may be delays, longer than usual waiting times to purchase tickets and possible disruptions. AMC is committed to ensuring that any delays or disruptions are resolved as quickly as possible .”
I don’t think the film industry expected Taylor Swift to swoop in and take over.
