As part of Disney’s centennial celebrations, Disney officially releases a special edition restored and remastered in 4K UltraHD of the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This was Walt Disney’s first animated film, but don’t expect Snow White star Racheal Ziegler to watch it, because judging by all of his interviews with her as she talks about the film, she’s not really a fan of Snow White.
But, for those of us who appreciate the film and its place in cinematic history, the remastered version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be available to purchase on 4K UHD and Blu-ray on October 10th. The Disney100 edition comes in a special collector’s O-case, while Best Buy and Walmart offer a variety of retail exclusives including a special Steelbook and a collector’s pin, respectively.
The film description reads: “The beautiful and kind Princess Snow White charms every creature in the kingdom except one: her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White to be the fairest of them all, she must flee into the forest, where she befriends the adorable seven dwarfs: Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love’s kiss can save her!”
The in-the-making live-action film won’t feature the delightful Seven Dwarfs, and it won’t even feature the magic of true love’s kiss. In the reimagining, Snow White is a warrior and leader who won’t need to be rescued from a prince who is “persecuting” her. At least that’s how Ziegler describes it.
I have good memories of this movie because it’s terrifying! The ending of this movie with the Evil Queen is a real nightmare and it was scary as hell when I was a kid!
