After two seasons, Disney+ has decided to pull the plug Doogie Kamealoha, doctorwhich is a modern remake of the classic 90s series Doogie Hauser, physician The news comes five months after the end of the second season.
This is one show I never got around to watching so I have no idea if it was good or not. But, with the show’s cancellation, the ratings must not have been very good.
The series was created and executive produced by Kourtney Kang, and the story followed the adventures of 16-year-old Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), as she juggled a budding medical career and teenage life in modern-day Hawaiʻi. The full synopsis reads:
Doogie Kamealoha, MD – a coming-of-age drama inspired by the hit medical series “Doogie Howser, MD” – follows Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a fledgling medical career and teenage life. With the support of her caring and comical ‘ohana (family) and her friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her adolescence and forge her own path.
Guiding Lahela (and complicating matters too) is her career-driven mother Dr. Clara Hannon, who is also her supervisor at the hospital, her doting father Benny helping to keep her connected to what matters most , his free-spirited older brother Kai, his gregarious younger brother Brian Patrick, his best friend Steph, surfer Walter and his hospital colleagues Dr. Lee, Charles and Noelani.
Set in modern-day Hawaii, Doogie Kamealoha, MD is filmed on O’ahu. Creator and executive producer Kourtney Kang (How I Met Your Mother, Fresh Off the Boat), born in Hawaii and raised in a Philadelphia suburb to an Irish mother and Korean father, infuses the stories and experiences of her own life into this series about a mixed-race Asian-American girl.
Cast members included Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Lahela, Kathleen Rose Perkins as Dr. Clara Hannon, Jason Scott Lee as Benny Kamealoha, Matthew Sato as Kai Kamealoha, West Tian as Brian Patrick Kamealoha, Emma Meisel as Steph, Mapuana Makit’s at such as Noelani e Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman like Charles.
