Warner Bros. Says Tropical Storm Hilary Had ‘Significant’ Impact on BLUE BEETLE’s Box Office Numbers

Blue Beetle hit theaters last weekend, and when all was said and done, it fell short of expectations for its box office gross at just $25.4 million. This was DC’s lowest opening weekend at the box office since 2020 with Wonder Woman: 1984 with just over $16 million.

Well, Warner Bros. is blaming Tropical Storm Hilary for the film’s low box office numbers. The studio said in a statement to Exhibitor Relations Co.: “The storm’s impact is expected to be significant, particularly in Southern California, where the film is over-indexed.” Los Angeles is said to be Blue Beetle’s largest market, but that area has been affected by rain, floods, mudslides and landslides.

You know, there may be some truth to the state telling people not to go out because of the potential danger. I don’t know, though. When it comes to these superhero movies, the box office numbers have just gone down lately. Audiences just haven’t gone to theaters to watch these movies like they used to, and I say part of the blame should be put on superhero fatigue, and then there’s the fact that DC fans have been burned so many times in the past. over the years.

Now that the storm has passed, we’ll just have to wait and see if people who missed it over the weekend show up to watch it over the week or next weekend. This will tell us if it really was the storm or just a lack of interest.

I’ve heard great things about the movie, but haven’t had the opportunity to watch it yet. I want to but life has been crazy busy lately with traveling and getting my son ready and going to college.

The film’s story centers on Jaime Reyes, the alter ego of the Blue Beetle, a vigilante who has a beetle grafted onto his spine that gives him enormous powers and the ability to emit blue energy. Here is the synopsis:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find home isn’t quite the way he left it. As he tries to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Beetle. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime as its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with incredible armor with extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero BLUE BEETLE.

Blue Beetle was directed by Angelo Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) from a screenplay adapted by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala). The film is the protagonist Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Reyes; Bruna Marquezine as Penny, the female lead and love interest; Belissa Escobedo as Jamie’s younger sister Milagros; as well as Harvey Guillen; AND Susan Sarandon as the villain Victoria Kord.
