Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired a new adventure documentary titled Canary, and the first trailer was released for it. This documentary follows the adventures of a climate scientist who has been called “the closest thing alive to Indiana Jones”.
The film is all about Dr. Lonnie Thompson, who is referred to as an explorer “who has gone where no scientist has gone before and transformed our idea of what is possible.” One of his specialties is traveling to remote locations in various regions of the world to drill ice cores for analysis. His goal is to try to get a better understanding of the Earth’s climate.
The description reads: “By daring to search for Earth’s history contained in glaciers atop the world’s tallest mountains, Lonnie found himself on the front lines of climate change – his life’s work has evolved into a rescue mission to retrieve these priceless historical documents before they disappear forever. “
of the oscilloscope Dan Berger said in a statement: “Canary is a thrilling story featuring a real-life superhero working against all odds to create a better future for all. He’s adventurous, thrilling, and tugs at your heartstrings. Stunning cinematography by Devin Whetstone captures Lonnie’s personal story while contrasting it with the epic nature of the Peruvian Andes. We’re thrilled to bring him to theaters so audiences can have the opportunity to see him in all his big, loud glory.
Danny O’Malleya producer on Chef’s tablehe directed the film with an MIT-trained neuroscientist Alex Rivesti, Ph.D. O’Malley said: “When we told people we wanted to get a Chef’s table TV crew on an 18,000 foot mountain in the middle of nowhere, people thought we were crazy.
Rivest added, “At that altitude, we had half the oxygen there is at sea level, making this film was the hardest thing we ever did in our lives. We’ve pushed ourselves to the limit to tell this incredible story, and with the help of Oscilloscope, the world is about to find out why. There is no one on earth like Lonnie Thompson.
Producer Andrew Fried called the directing duo “two of the most passionate and gifted storytellers I’ve had the honor to work with.” He added: “Canary is an impactful, entertaining and important film that showcases their commitment and eye for compelling characters and essential storytelling. Boardwalk is proud to have partnered with them on this film and couldn’t be more excited to bring the story of Dr. Lonnie Thompson to the world.”
The film’s director added, “When we say Lonnie is like a real superhero, that’s not hyperbole. Unlike glaciers at the poles, the high-mountain tropical glaciers Lonnie studied provide water for billions of people, and when they disappear, there will be catastrophic consequences that will affect everyone. Lonnie is doing his job and telling his story about him because he can save lives. So, it’s not just a big adventure story. He has the potential to make a difference.”
I love going to remote places and exploring! It’s one of my favorite things to do in the world and I wish I could do it for a living! How cool would that be!? I would love to have an adventure with this guy!
The film will have a limited release on September 15, followed by a special one-night only national screening on September 20.
