Disney worried the new HAUNTED MANSION movie was too scary

Like reactions to Disney Haunted house have come out there has been a good amount of talk about how scary the movie is. It’s great to hear that because I was hoping for a Haunted house movie that actually incorporated some good scares into the story, if you’re going to make a movie based on the Haunted Mansion ride, you need to make it scary!

Director Justin Simien recently spoke about the film in an interview with CB and shared that there were things in the film that Disney thought would be too scary for audiences! Luckily during the test screening, the kids wanted more thrills! The director explained:

“There were some things that the studio thought would be too scary, and then we started screening the movie and the first few people were like, ‘Is this movie too scary?’ The children raised their hands and said, “No, I can do it. We want more.’ And so ultimately there were things that I really didn’t think were, particularly about Hat Box Ghost, and especially with some of the jump scares, that I wasn’t sure if he was really going to make it, but it happened because the kids wanted more. Kids can handle it. And if you respect them enough to handle the story, they can make it. And we just leaned into that. Life is scary.”

I’m just happy that we’re actually going to have a Haunted Mansion movie that’s going to be full of thrills and chills that the whole family will enjoy.

Haunted Mansion “is about a woman and her son who enlist a diverse group of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural abusers.” They find themselves on a spooky adventure where they have to solve the mystery of the mansion and if they don’t, they will be stuck there for eternity.

The film features an all-star cast of actors including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Rosario DawsonAND Danny DeVito star, with Jamie Lee Curtis as Mrs. Leota, Winona Ryder, Dan LeviAND Hassan Minhaj will also appear in the new film. Then, there is Jared Letowho is taking on the role of the infamous Hatbox Ghost.

Haunted house hits theaters July 28.
