THE WALKING DEAD teaser trailer: THE WALKING DEAD: THE ONES WHO LIVE continues the story of Rick and Michonne

During AMC’s big presentation for Walking Dead franchise at Comic-Con, they premiered the first trailer for the upcoming Rick and Machine series, which is titled The Walking Dead: He Who Lives. It doesn’t offer many story details, but it teases Rick’s continuing adventures (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).

The series tells the story of the couple who reunite after Rick is assumed to be the ninth season of The Walking Dead. However, fans learned that Rick had survived and Michonne went on her own journey to find Rick.

It’s been over six years since Rick disappeared from his group in the mysterious CRM helicopter with Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). Showrunners Scott M. Gimple previously shared that this “epic love story” brings Rick and Michonne together and takes place in a location never before seen in The Walking Dead Universe. “Discovering new individual worlds is key,” Gimple said, adding that Rick “discovered a new world” when he woke up from his coma in The Walking Dead pilot.

Walking Dead showrunner Angela Cang noted that we last saw Michonne “somewhere between” Virginia and New Jersey, heading north and following a large migrant caravan traveling in the same direction. They may have been the displaced survivors of Portland, Oregon, a community of 87,000 survivors targeted by Jadis and the second CRM chemical attack on World Beyond. (That series ended with the people of The Perimeter — a small survivor colony in Ithaca, New York — traveling across the country on a mission to warn Portland.)

The description of the series reads:

“This series features an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they used to be. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… are the Walking Dead too?”

Those who live will premiere in 2024 on AMC.
