The first trailer was released for Ted RaimiBonkers new thriller titled Failure!, which was shot in one 87-minute take. I’ve been really curious about this movie and it looks like it’s going to be an interesting and engaging movie.
Raimi plays the role of James, “a man who has only one hour to choose between financial ruin or murder to protect his family.” The story follows James, “who owes a huge debt to the bank and has an hour to choose between financial ruin or murder to protect his family. As the hour progresses, he finds his home and phone invaded by multiple characters pulling him in different directions, gradually increasing her anguish and undoing him. But who is real and who is not?
Raimi said in a statement: “Insanely excited to show UK audiences this film – I really am – as I’m mainly known to my fans as ‘the horror guy’. I’m proud of it, but this movie will show a different side of me that the fans will really appreciate. Plus, it’s at FrightFest, the biggest horror and thriller event in the UK, my kind of audience!
Raimi previously opened up about the film, saying, “I read it and it was quite radical. It was just one take, one shot. Yes, aren’t they bananas? One shot, that’s the idea. So, that’s 87 pages. It is essentially a play in three acts without intermission.“
He went on to talk about shooting the film in one take, saying, “The scenario was very appealing because there are no cuts; it’s an hour and a half and no cuts. And I felt able to do something like that because I trained in theater first… I knew I was capable of things that some actors trained exclusively in film, who can be fantastic actors, would get tired after 10 or 20 minutes without acting break. It might be challenging and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad actor for not being able to do it, but it’s very similar to the difference between doing supported push-ups and supported walking.
The film was directed by Alex Kahuam, and they really shot the movie in one take. There is no modification. When asked what would happen if a take was screwed up, Raimi said, “You start over from page one, and it was quite a challenge, but it turned out great.”
The film also stars Merrick McCartha (Last year), Melissa Diaz (Ruthless), John Paul Medrano (Seven days), Daniel Kuhlmann (Voodoo MacBeth) AND Noël Douglas Orput. The psychological thriller will make its world premiere at FrightFest 2023.
