Focus Features has released the first trailer for The Remainingan upcoming comedy-drama, which comes from the director Alexander Payne and actor Paul Giamatti. I don’t know what’s in Payne’s films, but I enjoy watching them, I like the stories and the characters he invents. Payne has made movies like Sideways, The Descendants, Election, About Schmidt, DownsizingAND Nebraska.
In this new film, Giamatti plays a high school teacher forced to spend the holidays with a group of students who have nowhere to go. During this experience, he unexpectedly finds himself befriending the school troublemaker and the head chef. Sounds like a good movie!
The story follows “a surly instructor (Giamatti) at a New England elementary school who is forced to stay on campus over Christmas break to babysit a handful of students who have nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them – a damaged and intelligent troublemaker – and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam.
The film also stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The idol) like Mary, Carrie Preston (True blood) as Lydia Crane, Gillian Vigmann (The Hangover) like Judy, Tate Donovan (Argon) like Stanley, Michele Provosto (Insatiable) as Jason Smith, e Brady Hepner (The black phone) as Teddy Kountze, with newcomer Dominic Sessa like Angus.
The film is scheduled to premiere in select theaters on October 27, followed by its wide release on November 10.
