Nintendo has seen great success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so it would make sense that they would want to start developing other films based on their original properties. Illumination and Nintendo are reportedly working on four more animated films which include The Legend of Zelda, Louis, Donkey Kongand a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
A lot of fans seem excited about a Zelda movie because it was something we’ve wanted to see made for years. As for that film, it is explained that “it will be an amalgamation of very different Zelda games, rather than just an adaptation of how, shall we say… Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princessetc.” They also say that Link will be speaking in the film. I must point out that Illumination has shot down these rumors related to a Zelda movie in the past, but a Zelda movie is inevitable. They won’t confirm it at this time if it’s true.
When it comes to the Luigi-centric movie, there really aren’t any details to share, but Luigi’s most famous standalone video game title is Louis Palace, which plays with some fun horror elements. This has been touched upon in a bit Super Mario Bros. movie.
Charlie Day voiced the character in the film and had previously expressed interest in developing an animated film related to Louis Palace. He previously said, “It’s so much fun to be a part of this world and people love these characters so much. I mean I’d love to keep doing that and Luigi has a whole mansion that he can wander around and be scared. But I don’t know I think I’d make as many as they wanted.”
As of now, if there has been any movement on these projects, it has been stalled at the moment with the writers’ and actors’ strikes currently underway.
