Disney is looking to cut back on Marvel and Star Wars content

As CEO of Disney Bob Iger continues its mission to fix all of Disney’s woes, it seems fans can expect to see less wonder AND Star Wars content. During an interview with CNBC, speaking about those franchises, he said:

“You’re retiring not only to focus, but also as part of our cost-containment initiative. Spend less on what we produce and earn less.”

He went on to say:

“Marvel is a great example of that. They hadn’t been in the TV business on any significant level, and they not only ramped up the production of movies, but ended up making a slew of TV series. Frankly, it diluted the focus and the Attention .”

I agree 100% with that. Marvel needs to focus on quality instead of quantity, and fans have seen how the quality of work suffers. One of the recent projects that didn’t have this problem was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because James Gunn was given all the time he needed to get it right.

As for the Star Wars franchise, I feel like it’s in a prime position right now. There isn’t too much content coming out, but it’s consistent enough to keep the fans happy and entertained. They have yet to figure out the content of the film, but that may change with the upcoming film Dave Filoni, James Mangold, Taika WaititiAND Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

One thing we know that Disney will not be cutting back… live-action remakes of their classic Disney animated films.
