IFC Films has released the trailer for an indie thriller titled What comes around, and follows a young teenage girl who meets a boy on the Internet and forms a relationship with him over the phone. As one might expect, the whole situation turns into a nightmare.
The film comes from the director Amy Redford, daughter of Robert Redford, and is described as an “engaging thriller” about a young romance that “becomes a menacing game of cat and mouse. Nothing and no one is as it seems…”
The director explained that “One moment we think we know where these characters are going; the next, all we know for sure is that the intricacies of family are often just out of reach.”
In the film “A teenage girl and her cell phone. It’s a troubling combination for many parents, and when Anna tells her mother, Beth (Summer Phoenix), that she met a guy online, Beth goes on full alert. It turns out Anna’s new crush isn’t a boy but a man—28, and she says all the right things to a girl on the verge of 17 as she cradles her phone in her bedroom. Then, uninvited, there he was, on the threshold of the family.
The film is the protagonist Grace Van Dien like Anna, Summer Phoenix like Bet, Reina Hardesty, Jesse GarciaAND Kyle Gallner as Eric, Anna’s boyfriend.
It looks like the movie will have some interesting twists, and there’s a lot more to the story than meets the eye. It really looks like it could be a really good and intense movie!
IFC Films will make its debut What comes around in theaters starting August 4, 2023.
