James Gunn confirms that Nathan Fillion is Guy Gardner’s version of Green Lantern in SUPERMAN: LEGACY

We learned about this recently Nathan Fillion (Firefly The suicide squad), Isabella Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), AND Edi Gathegi (X-Men: first class) had joined the cast of James Gunn’S Superman: Legacy.

It was reported that Merced would play the role of Hawkgirl, Gathegi will play Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific and Fillion will play a Green Lantern. We weren’t sure which version of Green Lantern Fillion would play, but Gunn recently confirmed that he’ll be playing the Guy Gardner version, which is what I was hoping for! Here is the confirmation he sent:

The three new cast members join David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, e Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Guy Gardner is known for his brash and confrontational demeanor, and has a unique blend of arrogance and unwavering determination. He was initially cast as a backup Green Lantern, but eventually became one of Earth’s primary protectors. Guy’s path has been marked by personal struggles and arcs of redemption, often clashing with his fellow Green Lanterns and superheroes. He has gone through many trials, including losing his power ring and experiencing a series of emotional transformations. Despite his abrasive nature, Guy Gardner has proven to be a resilient and loyal hero, fighting to protect the innocent and uphold justice alongside his fellow Green Lanterns.

Fillion will fit perfectly into this role and I hope we will see him as the Green Lantern in more DC movies after that. Superman: Legacy.

The film will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, driven by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

The story will involve “Superman joining a world where superheroes already exist.” These three superheroes are just a handful and may or may not be part of the superhero team, The Authority.

Superman: Legacy will launch the film portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It is expected to begin in early 2024, right on track for its currently scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
